What is "QS" ?
QS stands for quick stop. The throttle interlock lever (on top of rear handle) is linked to the chain brake. As soon as you release pressure on the lever, it stops the chain. (Engine keeps going). This is especially important for those making rapid succession cuts with minimal user interaction, such as forest fire fighting.
|What is meant by "PRO" ?
Stihl Pro chainsaws come in a variety of sizes. However, they all have this in common: They are intended for day in, day out use. They are designed to be "engine-centric" (bar bolts directly to the engine, with no plastic in-between). This results in a stronger, lighter machine. Most all models have Intellicarb® to keep running even with a dirty filter.
What is the "RESCUE" saw?

THIS SPECIALTY CHAIN SAW CAN ONLY BE PURCHASED BY TRAINED EMERGENCY SERVICES. There is an optional adjustable bar guard with limits penetration while sawing to avoid cutter roof rafters. The chain is specially suited as well, designed for opening up shingle roofing, around doors or windows, anywhere you need a controlled hole.
|What is different about an arborist' saw? Lightweight, powerful, with a top mounted handlebar. It is designed for tree climbers:
- Retractable lanyard ring.
- There is a lot of power in such a small package.
- Strong and durable.
The disadvantage of top handled saws is that they are inherently more dangerous. With your hands that high up and close together, you cannot get as much leverage as rear handle saws. We sell these saws only to professional users.
Perfect for reaching those branches that are out of reach. Put that ladder back in the garage, and use this saw!
It comes in a variety of different ways:
- Size of the engine (31.4, 36.3cc)
- Fixed length or telescoping
A must for the arborist! Automatic chain oiler. Uses the patented 4Mix engine that really puts out the torque needed by pole pruners to get the job done. No need to 'ease off' the pressure when cutting to help the engine keep up. With the 4Mix, you just put the saw down, and let it cut.
What does the "C" mean in 250C?
The "C" stands for "comfort" (or was that convenience?)
Depending upon the model, it would include:
Tool-less entry for guidebar tension adjustment and chain replacement. Stihl has this down to an art! It works well, and is very reliable. This is NOT a cheap knockoff.
Most "C" models have Easy2Start© which is designed to minimize the 2 stroke compression jerk during starting. This is great for those of us with arthritis, bursitis, and many other 'itis-s'.
Many "C" models also have a primer bulb to help the starting process along even more.
